Secured research funding still available in the UK | Letters

I was very sorry to read the experience of Professor José R Penadés regarding the loss of research funding (Thanks to Brexit, I lost a research grant of 2.5 million euros. I fear for the future of British science, 18 August).

However, I wanted to take this opportunity to reassure successful researchers in the first and second wave of Horizon Europe calls that guaranteed funding is available through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

We appreciate the difficulties that the continued delay in formalizing the UK’s association with Horizon Europe is causing UK researchers and innovators, and that is why we have put in place the guarantee that we provide on behalf of the government and which already provides hundreds of grants, including to those who have won advanced grants from the European Research Council.

UKRI works very hard to ensure researchers and businesses are aware of the warranty and have access to support and advice. Details are published on our website and our team is ready to answer all your questions via [email protected]
